The permanent methods of birth control are vasectomy, tubectomy etc. Artificial methods are safer than the natural ones. The condoms do not allow the ejaculated sperm to enter the vagina of the female, hence it avoids pregnancy. Oral contraceptive pills or birth control pills have hormones that suppress ovulation. Without ovulation no egg is produced from the ovaries hence, fertilization cannot occur and it avoids pregnancy.
